Peter Nielsen (Denmark)

Former Commander of NATO forces in Lithuania

With more than 30 years of leadership experience in NATO, the Danish Armed Forces and international organisations, Peter Nielsen approaches negotiation, leadership and decision-making under pressure from a practitioner's perspective. From 2021 to 2025, Peter commanded the NATO Force Integration Unit in Lithuania – a multinational organisation operating at the intersection of defence, military mobility and national preparedness. He also served as NATO's principal liaison with Lithuanian institutions. His career, spanning more than three decades, includes leading organisations of various sizes, international missions, and work in military, governmental and diplomatic settings. Today Peter is an independent board member of LTG Group, serving on its Audit and Risk Committee and its Strategic Projects and Investments Committee. He is also a board member of the Lithuanian defence technology company Unmanned Defense Systems. His areas of focus include resilience, security, risk management, military mobility and strategic transformation. Peter's experience offers a view of negotiation in an environment where interests extend beyond any single organisation, decisions are made under uncertainty, and military, political, governmental and international partners must align their positions at the same table.
